Oct 5, 2008 Twin Cities Marathon

Today was the marathon.  I finished.  I am satisfied with that.  It was not ideal.  I was still on medication from my sinus infection and was only at about 85% strength.  It was cold and rainy and windy.  It poured on us from about mile 3 to 13.  I mean poured.  I heard thunder.  My clothes were soaked, my feet were sloshing in my shoes, we had to dodge huge pools of water on the course. My time was nothing to brag about- 4:38-  that is over a 10:30 minute mile.  I was slowed down for sure.  I allowed myself to drink at almost every water station and I walked to drink- I just can’t drink from a cup and run at the same time.  But I made it.  There were nearly 2400 people behind me- which makes me feel good.  I didn’t push myself too hard.  I told my friends to leave me- I didn’t want them to be held back- but one stayed with me and we crossed the finish line together.

October 3, 2008 Walking

According to my schedule I needed to walk 2 miles today.  I wish I was walking on Sunday.  I am feeling a bit off center today.  I feel the sinus problem and fluid in my ears are improving, but I still feel a bit weak and off.  What a bad way to start a marathon.  I was hoping to feel energized and strong.  I still have all of tomorrow.  Maybe by Sunday I’ll be better.

Oct 1, 2008 feeling nervous

I did a 4 mile this morning.  Can’t really tell what my energy level feel like.  I am still struggling with fluid in one ear and a sinus infection.  Maybe if I just slow down to a 10 min. mile for the marathon I will be OK.  Who knows.  I did go see a chiropractor, in the hope that they could adjust something to clear the fluid in my ear.  I go back today too.  The weather forecast has changed for the worse- now there is a possibility of rain, slight in the morning, increasing around 11.  I guess rain would be ok- but thunder will be bad.
